Instructors and students often want to project from a Macbook to a projector. Here are brief instructions for doing so from both the XP and MacOS partitions on the LSS Infolab Macbooks. These instructions will work for most dual-boot Macbooks, although variations will occur depending on specific configurations.
- Check out a Macbook and a VGA adapter from the LSS InfoLab. (Or just the adapter if you're using a personal Macbook.)
- If you aren't using an LSS InfoLab Macbook, verify that the adapter fits the display port on the Macbook. Display ports are usually located along the left side.
Projecting from MacOS
- Start with everything off.
- Connect all the cords (power to the projector, and between the projector and the laptop)
- Turn the projector on.
- Boot the Macbook to MacOS.
- If the projected image shows the desktop picture but no icons or taskbar, you have an extended desktop. You'll notice that you can move your mouse off the side of the laptop display and it appears on the projected image. This is probably not what you want.
- To mirror the desktop, go to Apple -> System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangement.
- Click Mirror displays.
- The projected image will flicker as it readjusts. You may see the resolution on the Macbook adjust to fit the projector resolution. This should not be a problem.
Projecting from XP
- Start with everything off.
- Connect all the cords (power to the projector, and between the projector and the laptop)
- Turn the projector on.
- Boot the Macbook to XP.
- You may see the Windows XP splash screen appear and disappear in the projected image.
- If the projected desktop does not appear, click on the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator icon in the system tray (lower right corner of your XP desktop).
- Select Graphics options -> Intel Dual Display clone -> Notebook + monitor.
- The projected image should appear.
